Overview

Boracay is a small island off the northwest tip of Panay, known for the fine white sand and shallow water of White Beach. The beach runs through three sections that shift from quiet to busy, with restaurants and shops set back from the sand. Away from the main strip, the island keeps quieter coves, a mangrove park, and a windward side popular with kite surfers, and it is small enough to cross on foot or by short rides.

Standout experiences

  • White Beach

A long, broad stretch of powder-fine sand and shallow water, divided into three sections with different characters.

  • Island-hopping and snorkeling

Boat trips to nearby coves, beaches, and reef spots around the island.

  • Water sports

Sailing, kiteboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, and similar activities on the sheltered and windward sides.

  • Puka Beach

A quieter northern beach known for its shell-strewn sand and clearer, rougher water.

  • Bulabog Beach and the wetlands

The island's windward coast, a base for kite surfers, with a mangrove park behind it.

Getting there

Caticlan Airport, also called Godofredo P. Ramos Airport (MPH), is the closest gateway, about two kilometers from Caticlan Jetty Port. Cebu Pacific, PAL Express, and AirAsia fly there from Manila, Cebu, Clark, and Davao. Travelers take a tricycle or van to the jetty, then a short ferry to Boracay. Kalibo International Airport (KLO) is the cheaper but farther alternative.

When to go

The northeast monsoon, Amihan, runs roughly November to May and keeps White Beach calm and clear, with April the driest month. The southwest monsoon, Habagat, from about June to October brings rain, seaweed, and occasional surf, and typhoons are most likely from July to September. The Boracay-side port shifts from Cagban to Tambisaan during Habagat.
