Overview

Siquijor is a compact island province between Negros and Bohol, ringed by quiet beaches and known in folklore for its traditional healers. Most of its attractions sit within a short ride of one another: tiered waterfalls and cold springs inland, cliff-side and white-sand beaches around the coast, and the old church and convent in the town of Lazi. Renting a scooter or hiring a vehicle is the usual way to circle the island.

Standout experiences

  • Cambugahay Falls

A multi-tiered waterfall with natural pools and rope swings, a common stop on island tours.

  • Beaches and marine sanctuaries

Quiet stretches of coast, with snorkeling and dive sites offshore.

  • Lazi church and convent

One of the country's oldest and largest wooden convents, standing beside the town church.

  • Inland springs and caves

Cold springs and guided cave trips in the island's forested interior.

  • Island loop rides

Circular routes past fishing villages, viewpoints, and the island's old balete tree.

Getting there

Siquijor can be reached from Dumaguete by fast ferry in 40 to 60 minutes, with about 18 to 20 OceanJet trips daily and cheaper Anika Star sailings. Since December 2025, Sunlight Air has also flown nonstop between Cebu (CEB) and Siquijor Airport (IQR) four times weekly, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Ferries from Bohol's Tagbilaran reach Larena.

When to go

The dry season from November to April brings the calmest seas and the best diving, including day trips to Apo Island, whose reef holds more than 650 fish species and resident sea turtles. Barracuda gather at Tulapos Marine Sanctuary from December to March. The June to August southwest monsoon brings choppy crossings and poor visibility, and Apo trips can be cancelled.
