Overview

The Caramoan Peninsula juts from the Camarines Sur coast into the sea, a rugged landscape of limestone karst, white beaches, and quiet coves that gained wider fame as a location for international survival television. It is not a quick trip: reaching it means a long bus ride from Manila or a flight to Naga followed by a road transfer, and the peninsula itself is explored by outrigger boat. The reward is a scattered network of islets and sandbars, with snorkeling stops and limestone viewpoints between them.

Standout experiences

  • Short-route island hopping

A banca day linking beaches, snorkeling spots, and the low-tide sandbar that appears among the islets.

  • Long-route island hopping

Farther islets and a high limestone viewpoint, for travelers with a full day and settled seas.

  • Limestone islets and coves

Jagged karst cliffs and pocket beaches that make the peninsula feel like a world apart.

  • Caramoan town

The old parish church and plaza give the boat jump-off a sense of place away from the water.

Getting there

Travelers reach Caramoan by bus, van, or private car to Naga, or by flying to Naga Airport (WNP) or Virac Airport (VRC). From Naga, a van or jeepney goes to Sabang in Partido, where boats cross to Caramoan's Guijalo port in two to three hours. Freight boats run from Sabang to Guijalo, usually in the early morning.

When to go

Boat crossings between Sabang and Guijalo are weather-dependent and dangerous during storms, so the dry season is the safer window. An alternative overland jeepney route from Goa to Caramoan is described as safe only in the dry season. The area is best known for island hopping among its limestone islets, beaches, and coves.
