Overview

Romblon is a small archipelago in the Sibuyan Sea, long known as the country's marble capital and usually seen only from the air on the way to busier islands. The main island pairs the long Bonbon sandbar with marble workshops, an old cathedral, and the ruins of a Spanish-era fort, all within reach of the port town. Neighboring islands add reefs, beaches, and, for experienced hikers, the mountains of Sibuyan. Crossings are limited and weather-dependent, which keeps the islands uncrowded.

Standout experiences

  • Bonbon Beach sandbar

A long spit that reaches toward a neighboring islet at low tide, the island's signature shoreline.

  • Marble workshops

Carvers' studios and showrooms around town for the craft the province is known for.

  • Romblon heritage walk

A cathedral, fort ruins, and old streets in a compact town around the port.

  • Neighboring island beaches

Boat trips to quieter islands for diving, snorkeling, and empty sand.

  • Sibuyan's mountains

A serious climb for experienced hikers with guides and permits.

Getting there

Romblon's Tugdan Airport (TBH) is at Alcantara on Tablas Island, with flights from Manila. Ferries also serve the province: Montenegro Shipping Lines and 2GO Travel run from Batangas City to Romblon town, Starhorse Lines sails from Dalahican port in Lucena, and ferries connect Tablas with Caticlan. The capital, Romblon town, sits on Romblon Island.

When to go

The province gets hit by typhoons during the rainy season, which can disrupt the ferries that link its islands. Calmer, drier months make inter-island travel and diving more reliable, so the window from roughly December to May suits most trips. Romblon is a diving destination and the country's main source of quality marble.
