Siargao
A surf-and-island destination in the Caraga region, built around the Cloud 9 reef break, a coconut-lined coast, and lagoon day trips.

Overview
Siargao lies off the northeastern coast of Mindanao and is centered on Cloud 9, a reef break that draws surfers to the island and anchors a relaxed town in General Luna. Beyond the waves, the island is rimmed with coconut palms, white-sand islets, mangrove forests, and tidal pools, and the surrounding waters cover reefs and lagoons. The pace is easy, and much of the island is explored by scooter or by boat.
Standout experiences
Cloud 9 and the boardwalk
A powerful reef break with a wooden viewing boardwalk, best suited to experienced surfers when the swell is up.
Tri-island hopping
Daku, Guyam, and Naked islands, a classic boat day of shallow water, sandbars, and reef snorkeling.
Magpupungko rock pools
Tidal pools and rock formations on the Pilar coast that appear at low tide, with clear water and cliff jumps.
Sugba Lagoon
A sheltered lagoon among mangroves and limestone, reached by boat for swimming and kayaking.
Del Carmen mangroves
One of the largest mangrove forests in the country, explored by boat through a protected wetland.
Getting there
Sayak Airport (IAO), also called Siargao Airport, sits in Del Carmen and has flights from Clark on Cebgo and PAL Express. Many travelers instead fly to Surigao City or Cebu and take a ferry from Surigao City to Dapa, the island's main entry port. Tricycles and vans then run from Dapa and Del Carmen to General Luna.
When to go
Siargao's surf season runs with the southwest habagat monsoon from August to December, when offshore winds shape the reef breaks at Cloud 9 and nearby spots, and September to November brings the most consistent swells. Cloud 9 hosts the annual Siargao Cup. The Pacific-facing island is typhoon-prone; Typhoon Rai struck in December 2021.
