Bataan (Morong)
A peninsula of World War II memory, heritage towns, and quiet beaches within easy reach of Manila.

Overview
Bataan folds layered history and a calm coast into a single peninsula a few hours from Manila. The Mount Samat shrine and the markers of the Death March anchor the World War II story, while Bagac holds Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, a heritage park of transplanted bahay na bato. Farther west, Morong's beaches and coves draw families, and the turtle nesting season brings community conservation work to the fore. It works as a weekend of memorials, heritage, and sea.

Getting there
Bataan is reached overland from Metro Manila by bus or car, then a local bus or jeepney onward to Morong. Subic Bay International Airport (SFS) has no scheduled passenger flights; the nearest active airports are Clark (CRK) and Manila (NAIA), both connected by road via the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway.
When to go
The dry season from December to May is the best window for Morong's beaches and the Mount Samat shrine; the rainy months from June to November bring afternoon downpours and rougher seas. Morong is also home to the Pawikan Conservation Center, where the community protects and releases endangered marine turtles, a year-round draw on the town's beaches.
